Join the Rotary Club of Florence, serving all of Boone County (@FlorenceRotary), on Monday, December 4, 2023 at noon as we hear from Sheila Bair (@SheilaBair2013), author of the Money Tales books and Former Chair of the FDIC.  Ms. Bair will share how we can teach our kids to be financially savvy in fun ways whichSheila Bair they can understand.

In cooperation and coordination with the Kentucky Financial Empowerment Corporation (@KentuckyFEC), Ms Bair will be “touring” Northern Kentucky during the day – visiting several Boone County Schools (@Boone_County), speaking to the Rotary Club of Florence at lunch, the NKU Haile Women in Business group in the afternoon and then wrapping up in the evening with a Math and Money Night held at Stephens Elementary (@StephensElementaryKY) from 5:30 – 7 pm.  The event is made possible by a Rotary District 6740 grant which the Rotary Club of Florence received.  The grant supports a partnership with the Northern Kentucky Education Council’s (@NKYEC1One to One Reading Coach program.  The Rotary Club of Florence Foundation along with Fidelity Investments(@Fidelity) and FoolProof Foundation all of whom made a donation to support the purchase of books to be given to all children at the schools which Ms. Bair will be visiting.

Once named by Time Magazine as “the little guy’s protector in chief,” Ms. Bair is a passionate advocate for strong consumer protections in financial services and educating the public on financial basics, starting at an early age. She also practiced what she preaches in raising her own two children, who now, as adults, save regularly and live debt free. She is the author of Albert Whitman’s Money Tales picture book series, which includes Rock, Brock and the Savings Shock (2006), Isabel’s Car Wash (2008). Ms. Bair has had a long and distinguished career in government, academia, and finance. She is perhaps best known as Chair of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) from 2006 to 2011, when she steered the agency through the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. For her leadership of the FDIC, she received the JFK Library’s Profiles in Courage Award and was twice named by Forbes Magazine as the second most powerful woman in the world. A former finance professor and college president, Ms. Bair has been nationally recognized for her innovative initiatives to make college more accessible and affordable.
